In recent years a number of scholars have advocated self-repair in the treatment of linguistic errors.They argue that negotiation of form may serve to push learners to self-repair.In principle and practice,however,there seems to be loose ends of one kind or another:inconsistencies,unexamined assumptions and unresolved difficulties.The author thus probes into negotiation of form from cross-disciplinary perspectives,define and diversify the role of negotiation of form,and thereafter specify the parameters within which it might operate and maximize its value,in an effort to pres- ent some suggestions on how to conduct oral correction properly in the Chinese tertiary-level EFL classroom.
