Specifically, it is proposed that the teaching of English majors should focus on fostering the training of future translation professionals. Based on the experience at the International School of Interpreters in Belgium, the author argues that students should be exposed to a wide variety of subjects in order to prepare them for the breadth of subjects they are likely to encounter as interpreters. Further, in order to produce high quality interpreters who can meet international standards, top students should receive professional interpreter training.
