Lou(謰謱), a verb meaning to wriggle in the mouth, has become an adjective by extension, meaning unclear. Lian(謰謱) means (of one’s language) continuous and not succint. Lianlou(謰謱) became Loulian(謰謱) in the dialect of the later generations and Luolou(謰謱) in classical literature. It changed to Luozao(罗唣) in oral literature and later to the present Lousuo(罗嗦). In the whole process, both the internal structure and meaning of the words have undergone radical changes.
