No adequate attention has been paid to the function of the particle 啲. This paper points out that the structural particle 啲, as a grammaticalized result of an indefinite classifier 啲 which behave as xie 些 in Mandarin, also denotes plural quantity. Its grammaticalization process can be summarized as: indefinite classifier→demonstrative→structural particle. With a comparison between 啲 with 嘅, the paper discusses the implication of such function of 啲 in the studies of Chinese grammar.
