The Presidents Harper and Hutchins played a very important role in its development. Their wisdom helped the university form its vision, culture,mission, and infrastructures. With their leadership,exploring of knowledge became the university's first call and its general education program became a model in American higher education. The development of the University of Chicago needs to be studied carefully in China, especially in the time of commercialization and bureaucratization of universities.
