Setting double criterions both in content and artistry of poet, Liu Xie holds such a view on lyrics with orthodox content and flowery language. He has a low opinion of the music songs in Han Dynasty. With the orthodox concept of music, Liu Xie holds the standard poems in high esteem while the popular poems in low position. He sets the orthodox concept of music and gives a severe criticizes to the music songs in Han Dynasty, Liu Xie holds different concept of music. The concept of Yuefu is orthodox while the concept of poet is new. Liu Xie is excessively severe both in words and music but the major idea to put an end to the decadent poems is necessary for the Parnassus of the day.
