This present paper analyses briefly how the author's male perspective controls Jannie's fate and the creation of the work, presents the patriarchal power and feminist consciousness expressed in the novel and points out the causes of Jannie's tragedy. In this way, it shows that Drieser's inability to transcend the patriarchal consciousness and culture.
