These views have been artistically revealed by the frequent presence of a male first-person narrator in her novels ever since she published Under the Net. Her novels with the male first-person narrator offer the clearest illustration of her form / contingency frame. Composing his own story into a narrative is the male’s most self-deceptive attempt to impose form onto contingent experience. The male narration itself is subversive of male-dominated structures and modes of perception.
