Essentially, FLT should aim at helping the learner to develop the ability to learn through communication in the target language. Most of such communicative activities can only occur outside the classroom. Consequently, the major purposes of FLT classroom instruction should be to foster learners' interest in learning the target language, to provide or create real communicative needs, to train the learners in terms of learning strategies, and to help solve problems they encounter in their autonomous learning.
