An analysis of Moss Roberts' complete source-oriented version of Three Kingdoms demonstrates that the polysystem theory can not predict the strategies of an individual translator, a nd that English translation of Chinese works does not have to be always domestic ated in order to gain acceptance among Western readers. In discussing the choice of translation strategies, we need to differentiate the translation orientation s of a social cultural group and its individuals and interpret their translation al actions with different theories and methods.
