(Research Center for History of Chinese Language;Zhejiang University;Hangzhou 310028;China) | | | Da Fangbian Fo Bao'en Jing(大方便佛报恩经)(seven volumes) as a Buddhist sutra whose translator is unknown, is used as the catalog of Buddhist classics of the Eastern Han(汉) Dynasty, which is doubtful. This paper infers its time of translation from the perspectives of grammar(including declarative sentences, passive sentences and interrogative sentences) and vocabulary (common words and multisyllabic words of "～切" form). And the paper holds that the grammar and the vocabulary of Da Fangbian Fo Bao 'en Jing (大方便佛报恩经) differ from the credible Eastern Han D ynasty (东汉) Buddhist sutra, and it should be translated not earlier than the Wei and Jin Dynasties(魏晋).
