Their sufferings disclose the sorrow of most intellecturals in feudal times. Fan Jin was lamentable as his spirit was polluted by the feudal imprial examination system, whereas Kong Yyi was pitiable as his characters were deformed by the feudal education. From their experience, we can see clearly the pernicious effects of fudal imperial examination system upon intellecturals.
